Goodbye to the USA

After some struggles, Jason MacMurray has finally got Phileas out in some surf. Here's what he had to say.

"Time to send Phileas out of Santa Cruz and packing to Canada.  Interesting run of surf while it was here.  No surf for the first couple of weeks and only managed a short session with my kids. Then, last weekend, we got our biggest swell thus far this year.  Decided it was mat time.

Despite the continual paddling and occasionally getting blasted, I managed to secure a few on Phileas, including one that was solid double overhead (standing up, that is).  Happy to report that the mat did as well in the big stuff as it does in everyday waves.  Unfortunately, the photo documentation is lacking.  There are a couple from that session but they don't do much justice.  Ultimately, I was just happy to bring the mat home in working order.

Liking the UTE design.  Probably the best one I've ridden though I have heard rumors from down South of a certain yellow mat that might be the best mat yet.

As is custom, you will notice Phileas has a few more tats than when it arrived.  That's how it works in Santa Cruz.

Looking forward to your visit.

Cheers."

Thanks a lot to Jason for hosting Phileas. She's spent just over a year on the US Mainland and has been through a lot. It looks like she needs a grip top up so hopefully someone is up for doing that along the way.

Next stop Vancouver Island.

Eh!

The Turn of the Mac

News from Phileas and it seems that she's hooked up with Jason MacMurray on Santa Cruz. Jason has a couple of G-Mats and a Neumatic or two so Phileas will have plenty of company. Here's what he has to say:

"Phileas is back in the water! Crap waves, of course, but managed to take the kids out for a couple of rides. Hoping for some better surf in the next couple of weeks.

Despite the bad waves, it was a nice November beach day so no complaints.

Also included some mat porn for your delight. That's Phileas in a Surfmat ménage a trois with "Self Pleasure" and "Pooltoy". There were two other Neumatics watching on.

Further updates forthcoming. Hoping for some real waves."

So the trick now then is finding proper surf but the odds look pretty good. Hopefully we will get to see some of Jason in action.

Cheers

Santa Cruisin' Too

Yes I know, I did that horribly weak pun where you use "too" to sound like "two" but there is more cruisin' going on in Santa Cruz, this time at the hands of Erik Oberg (now there's a Viking name if ever you heard one!)

Erik has had what sounds like a great session on our girl, but no footage due to perfect surf apparently not being good enough for some of his mates. Here's what he has to say:

"I tried calling all my friends to go for a surf this afternoon but they all had better things going on I guess... "Surfed already", "watching the kid", "just got out", and so on. Who knew it would be so hard to find someone to surf fun 3-5ft waves (in relatively warm water)? So instead I picked up my new friend Phileas from the house and we went to steamer lane and had a really fun session.

"Despite a hundred other people in the water, the evening was warm, glassy and fairly consistent. As the full moon rose and all the mini-mals and groms went home Phileas and I shared a few choice waves and really got some fun long rides cruising along the walls on the inside and I was getting throughly stoked on things. It was a really fun session!

Once home I took a few minutes to look at all the tattoos Phileas has acquired from traveling around and realized just how cool the whole store and idea is. If those doodles good talk, I can only imagine the stories each one holds. After my first session I'm excited to have a few more go outs and then the question arises. Where will Phileas go next and what adventures await?

Thank you G and thanks to everyone else who had a hand (indirectly or otherwise) in connecting me with Phileas and this community.

Remain Stoked!"

I'm stoked too. That sounds sweet! This shot is the firt I've seen of how the artwork is coming on and I think it looks great. I can only imagine how she's going to look when she gets home.

Hopefully Erik can find someone to help him to document his adventures! Can't wait to hear what else he and Phileas get up to next.
