Sguaba Tuinne

Here's a mat named "Sguaba Tuinne", built for matsurfer and photographer Bryan Garrison

Bryan is an experienced mat rider, living around Santa Cruz. There's a strong mat scene around there and some solid waves too. Bryan has a quiver of mats from various brands so when he got in on this run of orders, we thought about what he wanted to compliment the set. As I mentioned, Santa Cruz does have some spots with more solid and hollow waves so something to lock in seemed a good choice.

Nouveau Racer it is then...

This design is definitely a quiver mat. If you had it a your only ride then you would have some down days as it really doesn't like soft waves. Once you get it in the juice though, it really comes alive. The Nouveau Racer has reliable hold giving confidence in bigger and hollower waves. The lower volume, deep concave, more acute curve on the rail, combined with a narrower aspect ratio, is complimented with a 200/70 wheezer set up. All in all this gives a mat that locks in and goes. Perfect for the top end of Bryan's quiver then.

As for the name, Sguaba Tuinne (meaning Wave Sweeper) was said to be a self navigating boat owned by Gaelic sea God Manannán mac Lir. Self-navigating boat seems a pretty apt description for a mat so I'm all in on that!

Sguaba Tuinne is on the way to SC right now. I can't wait to hear what adventures she and Bryan go on.
