Phileas Hits the Pits
/Word from Mr Starky and this picture paints a thousand of them. More to come on Sean's time with Phileas. Meanwhile, Phileas turns tail and heads back to San Diego.

High-Performance Custom Surfmats Hand Built in the UK
Phileas was the 50th mat to come out of the G-Mat workshop. To celebrate this, and to say thank you for all the support I've been shown by the mat world, I thought it fitting to send her off around the world.
This blog is a record of Phileas' journey. As she gets around and people send me their pictures and and some words I'll put them up on here.
Around the world in... Well... Who knows?!
Word from Mr Starky and this picture paints a thousand of them. More to come on Sean's time with Phileas. Meanwhile, Phileas turns tail and heads back to San Diego.

Word from Mr Starkey and it seems that Phileas' travel itinerary has gone all over the shop!
The initial plan for the US West Coast was carefully put together. Start in San Diego with Kendog who would put together a few hook-ups. Next, on to Sean Starkey in Newport to hopefully get Wedge (out of season). Then, head up to Santa Barbara for a stint with ASB and the Rincon crew before hitting Santa Cruz with Steiny and on up the to the Pacific North West to hang with Pete D'Ewart and John Mann.
Tidy...
Best laid plans + mat surfers = beautiful chaos.
Pete and John from PNW are heading to San Diego in a couple of weeks so Phileas headed to Newport where the waves are poor so went early to Rincon except the Rincon crew weren't aware so she'll head back to SD to meet up with them from PNW and will then go BACK to Rincon before hitting Santa Cruz!!!
Sean's Instagram post has got people running all over So Cal! God I love this project.

Kendog Photo: Peter Saint Pierre
Well, Phileas has landed in San Diego and it would seem that Kendog has had some waves (there are even rumours of photos). The mat-vine has been rustling however, with word that John Mann (AKA Bag Juan) and Peter D'Ewart (AKA Chiledub) are going to be in town at the end of the month.
Well, it would be criminal for them an Phileas to miss each other.
So, with that in mind, Phileas is headed off to this guy...
Wedge legend Sean William Starkey and his band of merry hell-men are sure to give Phileas a warm welcome. I can't wait to see what comes of this little soiree.
Don't worry though San Diegans. Phileas will be back.

So with Phileas in San Diego awaiting a SAN DIEGO MATMEET (yes that's right... Give Kendog a yell if you want to be in on it) it's time to check out the US East Coast video.
As always, thanks to all involved. I'm so stoked on how this is going.
Cheers

Word from Mark Rogers who has been kind enough to offer board and lodgings to Phileas over Christmas. Alas it seems the poor fella hasn't been too lucky:
Happy new year to you.
I'm gearing up to send Phileas west to San Diego tomorrow, so that it can try its luck with the Pacific El Nino wave season.
The surf variables looked iffy yesterday, but I pulled the trigger & left pre-dawn with a couple of inches of snow on the ground to see if I could scrounge up a few waves. A lumpy, building windswell, super high tide, fog, and sideshore winds apparently had other plans. I checked & re-checked several spots, but it just wasn't in the cards, and honestly the fog was so thick that I didn't even get a decent picture of Phileas out at the point.
Sometime you win some, sometimes you lose, but I'm bummed that I didn't get any decent waves on Phileas during its New England leg this winter.
Thanks so much for the opportunity to host Phileas for a while.
The next contact that you gave me is:
Ken McKnight
That's right... The name is Ken McKnight. Phileas is heading out to the Wild West.
I believe the modern surf parlance is to say that "I'm frothing" over the next leg of the journey.
Cheers
